These are some questions that other couples have had...
Buckle up because there’s some important information you need to know but it’s a long ride!
To begin, I want to emphasize that it's perfectly acceptable if you’re already legally married in a different state or country, or if you plan to have a legal marriage elsewhere and simply desire a symbolic elopement in Virginia. However, if you wish for your ceremony to have legal validity, the first step is to obtain a marriage license from one of the Clerk of the Circuit Court offices. Virginia has several offices located throughout the state, so you can easily find the one nearest to your residence or intended wedding location.
In Virginia, there aren’t any residency requirements for eloping, meaning you don't have to be a resident of Virginia to get married within the state. When applying for your marriage license, make sure to bring a current and valid form of identification, such as a passport, driver's license, or state ID card. Additionally, you will be asked to provide the full names of both your parents as stated on their birth certificates. You will have to pay an application fee of $30.00 to obtain this license.
Both you and your partner must visit the Circuit Court offices together. However, you can save time by filling out the Virginia marriage license application form in advance. You can find these forms online by searching for the website of your nearest Circuit Court office. Once your application is approved, there is no waiting period to get married, and the license remains valid for 60 days.
Virginia does not require witnesses for a wedding ceremony. However, it's important to note that self-officiation is not allowed in Virginia. Therefore, you’ll need to have someone act as an officiant. The state does not offer Justice of the Peace or courthouse weddings. Your officiant must be registered with the state to perform marriages. Ordained ministers and marriage commissioners are also eligible to officiate. It’s possible for a friend or relative to apply for a one-time civil officiant license to marry you, but they must be a resident of Virginia who resides in the same county where you plan to elope.
I understand that this process can be a bit confusing, but there's no need to worry. If you need assistance, especially if you're visiting from out of town, I would be happy to recommend someone to you.
I use Lightroom and Photoshop to edit your images. I add my presets and, from there, I edit lightly. I tend to adjust the lighting, contrast, dodge/burn, saturation, vibrancy, highlights, shadows, etc. In addition to these edits, I also do light retouching (e.g., removal of a distracting element from a picture, removal or minimization of minor blemishes in skin, teeth, or garments, and similar modifications). These photos should be authentic and should make you feel proud to show them off. That is what I keep in mind when I’m in the editing process. I do not use Photoshop to dramatically alter or change your appearance because I strongly believe we are all great just the way we are.
Every elopement is unique but I typically promise 50-100 images per hour. I cull through the whole batch of photos first to take out any duplicate images or images that don’t meet my minimum standards, but rest assured that you’ll still get all of the moments that matter most to you and your partner!
Your full gallery will be finished within 4-8 weeks and, to help you still ride the high from your elopement or adventure session, I provide a sneak peek within 24 hours of your time with me. You won’t be waiting months before receiving some photos! Don’t you worry!
An adventure session is whatever you want it to be! It’s usually an engagement session, but it can also be an anniversary session, a day-before or day-after photo session prior to or following to your elopement, or a couple session. This type of session usually involves going to an epic location for amazing photos and, as it’s mentioned in the name, involves some element of adventure.
Adventure is completely subjective and could mean something different to each person. An adventure session to you could mean hiking, climbing, or braving the cold (or heat!) or it could entail visiting a place you’ve never been before or experiencing something you’ve never done before.
Regardless of what your adventure might be, I’ll be happy to photograph it for you!
